Another day, another.... salad. (Final)
So really what is there to say about salad? Well obviously quite a lot, surprisingly. Having grown up on salad it has become an easy topic to discuss (not that it comes up often or ever for that matter)But either way it is an important food that is important to my lifestyle and should be in every Americans diet. It has many benefits and few negatives, so what could really go wrong? The healthier you eat, the better you feel. Knowing what salad has to bring I plan on introducing salad into my future children's life's as well, just like my father did. It brought me a new view and appreciation to healthy foods, I now know what to look for and how to eat healthy, and the importance of maintaining a healthy diet.
Growing up Salad was a daily dinner side dish. It was always a bowl full of many vegetables, never a bowl full of one vegetable. For me, there a few selection of dressings at home, Ranch, Italian or Dorothy Lynch Homestyle Dressing, which I called "orange." It is sweet and tangy and I think mostly to make it easier for a kid to get leafy greens down there throat. . I remember asking my father one time during dinner "Can't we ever have anything other than salad?" He replied "No", and that was the end of it. I never asked or wondered again. Having Salad every night I didn't have the choice of whether I liked vegetables or not, but lucky for me I liked them. Well only the ones that were mainly in the bowl of Salad. The vegetables I weren't familiar with, I didn't like as much. For example, Broccoli and Colliflower. Pretty much the worst taste in my mouth, relatively speaking. Growing up healthy is important and the salads were ranked number one on my daily health food list. Even at Thanksgiving. Ever since i was a little tike my whole family has always got together for thanksgiving at my Grandmothers house. Every year since I can remember, my grandmother makes her signature salad. I know her secret ingredient is her dressing but I still don't know how she makes it, eventually I will learn but I know Thanksgiving wouldn't be the same without it. I am aware that it has passed down generation to generation. So health has been important in my family.
Salad having been part of my family and my daily diet I now know how to prepare different salads. So now that I've got you dressed up on the subject of Salad. What is there to say about that plain bowl of vegetables? Well It is a common healthy diet. Salad is a vegetable lovers food. There's no right or wrong, or no in between. You either like it or you don't. There are very many different ways you can serve salad. You can liven salad up with the hundreds of options we have as salad dressings or you can add meat or cheese, nuts or even fruit, anything that pleases your leafy green needs. It can be bland and quite boring but it brings significance and importance to me and most Americans, especially vegetarians. Salad has it's many sides boring or not. It's even hard to write about a food that has the potential to be quite boring, but it is definitely something people should have in their daily diets, it's easier than you think to make a salad more lively and please those taste buds.
Even with a few and low portion of extra toppings salad is healthy. For those health fanatics out there, salad is your best friend. If you top it with the right toppings. No fattening dressing or too many bacon bits. A typical green salad is high in nutrition, low in bad fats, and low in calories. Salad is the ultimate daily diet for all human beings. I have grown to love it, having it every day in my life, and I have learned many different ways to prepare salad. So If for you, salad is too plain, look up a few recipes to spice it up and savor that delicious healthy mouth full of vegetables.
But before you look up recipes you need to know how to make a salad. Of course everyone should know how to prepare a Salad, but for those of you who don't, there is hope, let me help you out. The main ingredient is, well, lettuce. Any kind of lettuce you please. Next is vegetables. It could be carrots, or peppers, or cucumber, or celery, there are many, many vegetables out there. Third is meat, or cheese or fruits anything you desire. It can be prepared in any desired order. Salad is as easy as one, two, three and very innovative and original.
